Green Thumb pokes fun at Trulieve’s Dogwalker-like pre-roll brand

Dogwalker, Green Thumb Industries’ (GTI) popular mini pre-roll brand available in seven states, markets itself as the perfect-sized joint to spark when you’re walking the dog.

On Aug. 16, GTI retweeted a side-by-side comparison of the two brands’ assets, writing “We LOVE mini pre-rolls, pass that over here!” with a winky face, reports AdWeek.

“We’re in the early innings in the cannabis industry, and there’s so much room for innovation and creativity,” Ryan Marek, GTI’s senior VP of marketing, said. “It looks like the strategy here is to draft off the market leader, and we would rather our competitors create something new.”

Trulieve had no comment.

New York is now accepting retail applications

The state of New York’s Office of Cannabis Management started accepting applications for adult-use cannabis retail licences on Thursday—and they’re all from entrepreneurs who have been impacted by the War on Drugs, per Marijuana Moment

The Conditional Adult-use Retail Dispensary licence application portal includes a number of resources designed to assist anyone interested in applying.

“It’s important to remember that this is just the beginning,” said OCM executive director Chris Alexander. “Our team here at OCM will keep launching programs to make sure New York’s industry is equitable, is diverse and accessible to all New Yorkers.”

US Cannabis Council shakes up its executive team

Khadijah Tribble will replace Steven Hawkins as CEO of the US Cannabis Council, per Benzinga

Tribble, the senior VP of corporate social responsibility at Curaleaf Holdings,  founded education and advocacy group Marijuana Matters in 2020.

“The US Cannabis Council unites my deep commitment to cannabis legalization with my passion for addressing the harms of prohibition,” Tribble said in a statement. “My priority is advancing meaningful cannabis reforms through Congress this year that will provide the foundation for achieving our ultimate goal of federal descheduling while fostering an equitable and inclusive legal cannabis industry.”

Juicy Fields copycat scams emerge

The Juicy Fields scandal has “entered a new phase,” according to BusinessCann. Now, copycat scams have emerged, as well as an onslaught of people posing as lawyers preying on victims of the Juicy Fields scam.

Some examples include:

  • Sweetfields.io has been flagged by original investors as a “near carbon copy” of the Juicy Fields site
  • Jansen Grow, which just issued its investment prospectus, is another “crowdgrowing” site which also appears to have connections to Juicy Fields

“This situation has definitely attracted copycats, and also attracted a lot of suspicious individuals who are offering all kinds of services,” said Lars Olofsson, CEO of PRIO Startup, which is compiling evidence to file a class action lawsuit on behalf of the victims of the original scam. “And that makes the situation even more distressing for all the victims and even more complicated and complex for anybody trying to sort out things.”
