Cannabis research bill heads to Biden’s desk after passing the Senate

Cannabis research bill heads to Biden’s desk after passing the Senate

The first stand-alone cannabis bill to be approved by both chambers of congress has passed the Senate and is on its way to Biden’s desk, according to a press release.

The Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act, aims to improve access to cannabis researchers, something Biden said needed to be easier in his election campaign. The bill hopes to accomplish this by making the application process for scientific studies more streamlined and removing barriers that frequently slow the research process.

Having passed the House back in June with strong bipartisan support, it was unanimously accepted by the Senate yesterday.

Congressman Andy Harris said, “As a physician who has conducted NIH-sponsored research, I am pleased that this bill has finally passed and that scientists will be able to research what medical marijuana can and cannot do.

Cookies to sell their iconic strains to home growers

MJ Biz is in full swing in Las Vegas and there are exciting announcements coming from the stage. Cookies CEO, Berner, was on a panel when he revealed that Cookies would be providing the home grow market with their seeds, according to a tweet.

Their own twitter confirmed this and shared the sign up link to the Cookies Seed Bank, launching in just a week’s time.

Berner founded Cookies 11 years ago, making it one of the longest running and most recognizable brands in the space. The new seed bank will be sharing their own and some of their partners’ genetics. “Everyone should get a home grow tent and set up asap!” said Berner on Twitter.

Tyson and Holyfield reunite to make ear shaped edibles

Following the release of Mike Tysons ‘Mikes Bites’ early this year, the boxer has now partnered with former rival  Evander Holyfield to release an ear shaped gummy, reports CBS Sports

The gummies are a reference to their infamous heavyweight world title fight in the 90’s when Tyson bit a part of Holyfields ear off. The fight had Tyson disqualified but now both athletes are making the most of it. The gummies will be cherry punch flavor, with Tyson joking it’s the flavor of Holyfield’s ears.

“It’s a privilege to reunite with my former opponent and now long-time friend, and turn years of fights and knockouts into a partnership that can make a positive impact and heal people,” said Tyson, co-founder and chief brand officer of TYSON 2.0, said in a statement.

The cannabis legislations that passed quietly in midterm ballots

Maryland and Missouri both voted to legalize adult-use cannabis in the midterm ballots. The 20th and 21st legal states dominated the midterm results news but a number of other smaller but important measures passed with less fanfare, reports Growth Op.

The measures;

  • 5 cities in Texas voted to lessen the police response to cannabis misdemeanors.
  • 5 more cities in Ohio voted for cannabis decriminalization. Following the 20 others who have already passed similar initiatives.
  • 25 of the 31 cities asked in Rhode Island about allowing cannabis businesses voted yes.
  • The state of Colorado decriminalized several psychedelics, including psilocybin.

More than half of the US population now has access to legal adult-use cannabis, providing some optimism that we may see federal legalization soon
