New York citizens have this week been invited to apply to testify at a public hearing to ‘address the many challenges that we have seen with the roll-out of adult-use cannabis’.
Sen. Jeremy Cooney, chair of the New York Senate subcommittee exclusively focused on cannabis, has invited members of the public to speak at the hearing, set to take place on October 30.
The hearing, which will take place before the 12-member senate subcommittee, was announced by Cooney last month.
Marijuana Moment reports that, according to Cooney, it is intended primarily as a ‘fact finding process’ that could help identify specific public policy needs.
“The goal of this hearing is to solicit feedback from a diverse cohort of individuals involved in the adult-use space,” he said in a press release.
“I believe the best way to ensure we meet that target is to publicly open a request process to provide oral testimony at the hearing,” he continued, calling it “of the utmost importance for transparency and diversity of voices that we provide an opportunity for any interested to use their voice.”
Those who want to speak at the hearing can now submit a witness request form, and while it is anticipated not all applicants will have the opportunity to testify, an option to submit written testimony will also be included.
