Let’s get functional (ingredients into edibles)

Some of North America’s most creative minds in cannabis are taking edibles and capsules to the next level, combining cannabinoids with functional ingredients such as Omega 3s, caffeine and non-psychedelic mushrooms.

Caps by Cookies

San Francisco-based Cookies is expanding on their Caps by Cookies line, this time trading the original CBD format with THC and combining it with CBN and mushrooms like Lion’s Mane and Cordyceps. There are two different formulations: Clarity is for daytime use and Bed Head is recommended for night-time.

“A THC formulation was the obvious next step in building out our Caps lineup,” said co-founder and CEO Berner in a statement. “The natural health properties of mushrooms and cannabis have been known for thousands of years, and they play off each other perfectly.”

Love for Tove Lo

And on Uproxx, culture and business reporter Jacqui Bryant is singing the praises of another functional formulation in, this time the caffeinated cannabis drink by pop star and cannabis investor Tove Lo.

“Infused with five milligrams of THC, the 12-ounce canned drink offers a lower dose option that is perfect for nighttime socializing, owing to the caffeine, or daytime drinking, also owing to the caffeine,” she writes. “That, in my mind, makes Cann & Tove Lo’s Passion Peach Mate the tour de force that it is.”

Apple cider vinegar and ahiflower oil, eh?

And even strictly regulated Canada is playing with functional ingredients.

Edible producer Dynaleo has included apple cider vinegar into their CBD-only Dynathrive CBD Apple Cider Vinegar Soft Chews. And Dosecann launched its innovative CBD and THC capsules, which combine omega-rich Ahiflower oil, last November.

“Balanced, omega-rich Ahiflower oil has proven to be an ideal carrier oil for Dosecann’s refined cannabis resins, which feature the full range of cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other phytonutrients found in the cannabis plant,” said Chief Science Officer Dr. Bob Chapman in a statement.
