Xebra is shipping the harvest to be inspected for the Netherland’s medical cannabis cultivation pilot project.

Xebra is one of five companies selected by the Dutch government to participate in the project. The company is aiming to be awarded one of two licenses for cultivation, with a contract for up to six years.

If successful, Xebra has stated this will provide for revenues of up to ~US$80m (€70.5m), to co-supply all pharmaceutical-grade cannabis to be sold through pharmacies in the Netherlands.

President of Xebra, Rodrigo Gallardo, commented: “We are extremely pleased with our smooth and successful results to date, as we carefully monitor every growth stage.

“Our innovated equipment made it possible for us to automate much of the growing process from germination to flowering, ensuring maximum consistency.”

The selection process for the trial includes the submission of samples from three cannabis trial crops, evaluated for certain criteria, including consistency and technical parameters. The Xebra shipment will see the delivery of two samples of medical cannabis – including a high THC sample of +22 per cent and a balanced sample with THC at ±6 per cent and CBD ±8 per cent.

The government will distribute the selected product to consumers through the country’s pharmacies – sold at a fixed price of €2,350/kg. The annual volume per license holder will be 5000kg.

The company has stated that its cultivation in the Netherlands is conducted in Xebra’s indoor facility, and its specific genetic varieties are characterised by high production, quality compact flowers with a growth cycle of 12 to 16 weeks.

Its director of operations in the Netherlands, Harry von Duijne, has more than two decades of experience of practicing horticulture, and formerly had a leading role at Bedrocan from 2014 and 2017 – which has been the only licensed producer in the Netherlands to provide pharmaceutical-grade cannabis under contract for the Dutch Ministry of Health.
