The Good, The Bad + The Ugly

The Good…

Justice may not be delayed much longer for those looking to have their Canadian cannabis convictions pardoned. Pardons are now being issued for cannabis possession convictions

A bit of Aphria news this week… They are “absolutely” interested in CannTrust’s assets. They released their quarterly financials, and Aphria got the seat on Jim Cramer’s Mad Money last night – so expect the corresponding run-up of Aphria shares during tomorrow’s trading. Cramer made Aphria seem like the one company in the space doing things right… time will tell.

TerrAscend continues to forcefully dip their toes into the US market. Adding to their New Jersey holdings, they acquired a Pennsylvania company Ilera Healthcare

Cronos was in the news as well, acquiring US-based CBD brand Lord Jones

The Bad…

And as the Aphria, TerrAscend and Cronos news looked pretty good, CannTrust news continued to look bad…

CannTrust is under investigation by the Ontario Securities Commission. As well, they have hired a helper to (maybe) get themselves sold

The Ugly…

If you’d like insight into Ignite, the partner brand for WeedMD’s new extraction business – Vice has a deep dive into an Ignite CBD party in London, England. (Hint: It’s kind of what you expect…)

The Funny…

With all the heavy news, some levity is called for – this time at the expense of the Prime Minister (via the Toronto Star).

If that isn’t enough levity, cannabis attorney Matt Maurer has something for you (and for John Fowler and Supreme)…

The Rest…

Last week, BofC live had some great guests:‍

David Gordon, Chief Corporate Officer of PharmaCielo talked about their expansion and extraction plans in Colombia.‍

Jeff Costen from Navigator discussed the intersection of cannabis policy and politics, with a healthy dose of crisis communications insights.‍

Nick Pateras, formerly of Lift&Co and now of Materia Ventures joined the show to talk about his pending move to the work in the European Market.

Tune in today for BofC Live with Mimi Lam of Superette – perhaps the coolest cannabis shop in the country.

Finally, Jay Rosenthal joined the Canadian Securities Exchange podcast #HashtagFinance. Find the full interview here.
