Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em at the NY State Fair: Officials

    By

New York’s State Fair kicks off this Friday, and things are a little different this year. For one, visitors can get a COVID-19 vaccine on-site. But there’s more: They’ll also be free to smoke cannabis on premises, reports Marijuana Moment.

While the state is still sorting out how adult-use cannabis sales will operate in the near future, consumption laws have already been implemented — meaning that wherever tobacco can be legally smoked now also applies to cannabis-smoking.

“Smoking is not permitted in Fairgrounds buildings or in the open concert venues at Chevy Court and Chevy Park but is allowed elsewhere outdoors,” clarified fair spokesperson Dave Bullard. “We encourage those who smoke to be considerate of others around them.”

    The official policy

But it won’t be a free-for-all: Tobacco smoking rightly isn’t as normalized as it used to, and it’s not permitted in any building or outside under a cover, in picnic areas, in “Kiddieland,”  the Midway or the on-site concert venue or at any memorial site. It is allowed on the Fairgrounds and other general areas.

    But we’re taking the W

Still, the massive New York market is looking like one of the more weed-friendly destinations in the increasingly legal world. State legislation included consumption lounges, and airport authorities have also stopped sniffing around for cannabis on domestic flights.

    We’re calling this progress.
