    New York Cannabis Industry Workforce Development Initiative Established to Target Justice-Impacted Communities

    A new initiative to empower New York’s justice-impacted population through a comprehensive workforce and career development programme has been launched.

    The Cannabis Justice & Equity Initiative (CJEI) and the Union Square Travel Agency: A Cannabis Store (USQTA) will launch the new initiative during a press conference at City College’s Harlem campus today (Tuesday, June 27).

    Bezinga reports that the pilot programme will comprise of 25 ‘returning citizen participants, offering education, training and guidance to individuals from New York’s most justice-impacted communities twice a week.

    The programme will equip these individuals with the necessary skills to access the estimated 60,000 job opportunities presented by New York’s burgeoning cannabis industry

    A comprehensive 16-week educational and training certificate programme has been created to address the common misconceptions surrounding cannabis regulations while providing universally applicable employment training, including digital literacy skills, seed-to-sale compliance and networking skills.

    Jamil Myrie, co-founder and chief programs officer of CJEI, said: “This goes right to the heart of the MRTA’s purpose as a social equity law.

    “Our intention is to democratise this cannabis opportunity by developing a skilled labor force using the feedback, knowledge, and experience gained from the pilot to inform our at-scale program operations of 100-person cohorts to run concurrently in each of the five boroughs of New York City every 16 weeks.”
