Lift, Martha Stewart and an East Coast (US) cannabis rivalry

A pandemic, the death of a hero of justice and harrowing wildfires rightfully took attention away from cannabis last week. But that hasn’t stopped legalization and normalization efforts from moving forward on many, many fronts.

And the Business of Cannabis team has been busy too. Last week, we launched the Weekly Chronicle, a subscription newsletter (first 4 weeks free!). The Weekly Chronicle is co-founded by Jameson Berkow – formerly of The Globe & Mail – who also serves as Editor-in-Chief. Check out the first issue: Inside the Cannabis ‘Entourage Effect’.

From Canada:

Lift & Co., the events and technology company that paved the way early in the cannabis industry in Canada, filed for bankruptcy last week. MJ Biz Daily

This was made slightly more confusing as last Monday, this was posted on Lift & Co.’s LinkedIn page:

Recreational cannabis sales continue to grow. Reaching a new record high (for legal cannabis) to $231 million. MJ Biz Daily

To keep up with this cannabis buying, the Ontario Cannabis Store opened a new warehouse in Guelph. Cannabis Retailer

To the US (via Smith Falls, Ontario – sort of): Martha Stewart’s CBD products have hit shelves in the US. Complete with a NY Times write up. NY Times

To Israel. Wondering what legalization could look like in Israel? Like this. The Jerusalem Post

To Manitoba: The Province is looking at (non-smoking) consumption lounges. Who’s in? StratCann

To Pennsylvania (and NJ): The East Coast rivalry about who grows the best weed is in full effect. With the race to legalization between New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania (and others) – Pennsylvania’s Lt. Governor wants everyone to know that Pennsylvania farmers can grow kind. Marijuana Moment

And while we’re on the East Coast – Vermont is getting closer and closer to legalization. Marijuana Moment

And while we’re in the US – a Congressional vote on legalization measures are now delayed. Marijuana Moment

Also, other things are consuming DC right now. CNN
