Biden officially signs first ever standalone US cannabis reform

HISTORIC BILL

Biden officially signs first ever standalone US cannabis reform

The cannabis research bill that cleared the Senate last month was officially signed by President Biden this past Friday, making it the first standalone cannabis reform law signed in the US, reports Marijuana Moment.

The bipartisan bill passed the Senate unanimously and “will make it easier to study the impacts and potential of cannabis.”. The bill streamlines applications and allows requests for larger amounts of cannabis

“For decades, the federal government has stood in the way of science and progress—peddling a misguided and discriminatory approach to cannabis. Today marks a monumental step in remedying our federal cannabis laws,” said the co-chairs of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus.

Couples are going green for their white weddings

As cannabis continues to become less stigmatized, people are finding ways to incorporate the plant into all aspects of their lives, from wellness to traveling, and increasingly on the biggest day of their lives, reports The New York Times.

New and existing companies are making the most of this new opportunity;

  • Cannabis lifestyle brand, House of Puff, have started to sell cannabis themed gift boxes for weddings are receiving numerous requests
  • Las Vegas Cannabis Weddings was founded by an officiant noticing a gap in the market and has since officiated 20 weddings this year.
  • Planet 13, a Las Vegas dispensary and hopeful consumption lounge also hopes to “create this full cannabis wedding experience that ties in consumption,” said Sales VP, David Farris

“I’m excited about the ways couples are rewriting the rules and reimagining their love parties so they feel seen and celebrated,” said Amy Shack Egan, founder and lead planner at Modern Rebel in Manhattan.

Unlicensed cannabis stores move into Kew Gardens, New York.

New York has continued its efforts to see legal sales before the year closes, even with the announcement of the first retail licenses last month, it seems less and less likely. The state has however seen plenty of illicit storefronts open, with at least three in Kew Gardens, reports The New York Post.

A brand new store opened on December 2nd selling pre rolls, edibles and flower. The store’s employees say that the firm who owns Pre-Roll World has applied for a license. Even with a license, the store is selling products from outside the state, an infringement of New York’s ‘seed to sale’ law.

“At best they’re jumping the gun. At worst, they’re illegal.” said Dominick Pistone, president of the Kew Gardens Civic Association.
