Despite campaign promises, White House ‘’don’t have anything to speak to’’ on cannabis action
After being called out by Senate hopeful, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, the White House made a statement on the lack of progress on cannabis legalization, reports Marijuana Moment.
White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, was asked about Fetterman’s comments at a briefing. She admitted “we don’t have anything to announce,” but pointed to Biden’s use of clemency as progress.
In a tweet, Fetterman said it was “long past time that we finally decriminalize marijuana”, pointing to the lives destroyed by the drug war and telling Biden “you have the power to use your executive authority to chart a new course.”

STRIKE ACTION
Job strikes at British Columbia’s monopoly cannabis supplier continue to affect small businesses
Small business owners are continuing to be impacted by the British Columbia General Employees’ Union strikes, reports MJBizDaily.
The strike is largely over wages and has aimed to disrupt major wholesalers, leaving stores with no stock. On twitter CFIB British Columbia shared comments from small business owners on the impact of the ongoing negotiations between the BC government and BCGEU continue.
“The government needs to allow more sources and less restrictions on cannabis stores” said one business owner, while another shared that they “had to reduce hours and lay off staff because of the strike. We will probably be closed by next week.”
PILOT TRIALS
Switzerland’s THC cannabis trials will ‘open the door for THC’
Europe’s first recreational cannabis pilot trial will begin in just a few weeks, with stakeholders hoping “these pilot projects will open the door for THC”, per Businesscann.
The details:
- The pilot is set to be launched in Switzerland’s third most populous city, Basel,
- It will run from September 15 2022 until March 2025.
- The study will have around 370 participants,
- Participants must be over 18, a resident of Basel-Stadt and an existing cannabis user
- Participants will be regularly interviewed to establish the levels of their cannabis consumption, and its effects on their physical and mental health, ‘among other things’.
According Lino Cereghetti, COO of Pure Production AG, “One of the main goals of this study is to figure out if, in a regulated market where they have a choice, people choose risk-minimizing products. Because if they go to the black market, all you get is high THC, no CBD.”
