New Committee Will Work to Federally Legalise Cannabis

    By

The US Cannabis Council has launched a new Super PAC (Political Action Committee) – ‘Legalize America’ – that aims to end the War on Drugs.

The organisation announced on Wednesday that it has launched the nation’s “first Super PAC devoted to cannabis reform” that will be working to raise the profile of cannabis as a national issue in the 2024 election “and beyond”, promoting responsible cannabis legalisation across the United States.

The committee states: “We are committed to working with advocates, industry professionals, and community leaders to create policies that support cannabis legalisation in a thoughtful and responsible manner.

“Our primary focus is on promoting federal legalisation, expunging records for non-violent cannabis offences, and ensuring that the benefits of legalisation reach all Americans, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.”

According to Market Watch, Legalize America is currently exploring fundraising efforts through round-up donations from customers at cannabis dispensaries. The publication explains this effort will soon begin with a test program at an unnamed location with hopes to expand to multistate cannabis operators across the US.

Matt Karnes, founder of GreenWave Advisors, a cannabis research and advisory firm, told the publication: “Clearly, momentum is building in favour of federal reform as an increasing number of Americans support the end of cannabis prohibition.

“To get legislation over the line, I do think the time has come for the industry, and in particular the larger multistate operators, to lean in with a more aggressive lobbying effort.”
