Boost for nanotech purification pioneer

Home » Boost for nanotech purification pioneer

Nanotechnology firm Sixth Wave, which has developed a novel cannabinoid purification system, has raised US$2.46m to further advance its technology.

The Canadian business is developing patented nanotechnologies that enable the extraction and detection of target substances at a molecular level.

Among its innovations is Affinity, a cannabinoid nanotech purification system which is currently in the process of being commercialised. Other target applications include in gold mining, via its IXOS product, and virus detection, through its AMIPs system.

The firm has raised US$2.6m from investors, which will be used, in part, to deploy Affinity cannabis purification units.

Sixth Wave targets substances at the molecular level using highly specialised molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) –  processed using the molecular imprinting technique which leaves cavities designed for a chosen ‘template’ molecule.

Sixth Wave can design, develop and commercialise MIP solutions across a broad spectrum of industries.

The company is focused on nanotechnology architectures that are highly relevant for the detection and separation of viruses, biogenic amines and other pathogens.
