Bophelo Bioscience & Wellness has secured European Good Agricultural and Collection Practices compliance which will allow for cannabis exports to international markets.
The Halo Collective wholly-owned subsidiary, Bophelo, has secured EU GACP for cannabis grown at its 14-hectare cultivation site in T’sakholo, Mafeteng.
The certification allows Bophelo, one of the key assets that will make up Akanda Corp., led by industry executive Tej Virk and Halo’s former executive chairman Louisa Mojela, to export to international markets such as the European cannabis market.
Supplying international markets
Pharmaconsulta, a Malta-based independent consultancy firm specialising in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, awarded the EU GACP certification to Bophelo, which clears the path for its commercial export of medical cannabis from Lesotho, Africa.
CEO and co-founder of Halo, Kiran Sidhu, commented: ”EU GACP certification is a hard-won accomplishment that enables Bophelo to participate in the large, rapidly growing market in the EU for medicinal cannabis.
“With this approval, Bophelo can begin commercialising its California and Oregon west coast style cannabis for the EU immediately. In addition, Bophelo is actively working to secure distributors for its premium flower lines.
“Many thanks to Tej and his team for putting in the hard work to get GACP across the line.”
Akanda is expected to include distribution and route-to-market through Halo’s UK-based approved pharmaceutical importer and distributor, CanMart, which supplies pharmacies and clinics in the UK.
