CHANGING HABITS
Cannabis consumers aren’t smoking less with inflation pressures
Although inflation has cannabis consumers changing habits, it doesn’t see them using less, reports Forbes
.A survey commissioned by Jushi Holdings has found that in response to rising inflation and cost of living, more than a third of consumers are choosing to purchase cheaper cannabis options. Despite a change in products, very few consumers have reduced the amount of cannabis they buy.
“Our independently conducted poll shows that even with mounting inflationary pressures and cost-saving behaviors on the rise, demand for cannabis remains very resilient,” Jim Cacioppo, CEO and founder of Jushi.
New Jersey exceeds $100M in a single quarter for the first time
New Jersey saw a jump in recreational sales last quarter, topping $100 million in sales for the first time and “New Jersey is only seeing the beginning of what is possible for cannabis”, says a press release
New Jersey now boasts 20 adult-use dispensaries and a further 10 medicinal outlets, with more on the way. Adult-use sales receipts totaled $116,572,533 between July and September 2022.
“We have now awarded 36 annual licenses for recreational cannabis businesses to New Jersey entrepreneurs, including 15 for dispensaries. Those businesses alone will be a significant growth of the market. With more locations and greater competition, we expect the customer base to grow and prices to come down.” said Jeff Brown, executive director of the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission.

Schumer makes one last push for SAFE banking inclusion
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has just a few more days to get SAFE banking through in some form before the end of the year, reports Politico.
Last Thursday Democrats shared a revised version of the act with Republicans, addressing the major Republican concerns in hopes to get the act passed this year. The bill was expected to be pushed in meetings across Friday and the weekend but no bombshell news has come out so far.
SAFE has tried to get by as an inclusion in the HOPE and GRAM Act as well as having been rejected many times as a standalone bill. The Independent Community Bankers of America says “The SAFE Banking Act is essential for the ongoing ability of community banks to effectively serve their communities.”
