Just one new company validated by FSA in latest novel food decisions

    By

Just one new company has had its CBD novel food applications validated in the latest round of decisions from the regulator.

The Food Standards Agency is updating a public register of applications which have been progressed to the next stage of authorisation on a weekly basis.

CBD companies were told to submit extensive safety data to the FSA ahead of a March 31 deadline in order to remain on UK shelves.

More than 750 applications for individual products were made but the industry was rocked when just 23 were given the green light when the first register emerged last week.

The regulator has confirmed to Cannabis Wealth the list will be updated on a weekly basis and isn’t expected to be completed until June.

This week, Rokshaw – which is based in Sunderland, England – had 19 applications under the brand names Canidol and Myo validated, the only new additions to the list.

The company joins applications under the PureisCBD, 4MP and CBDex brands.

A new application status – ‘on hold’ – emerged on publication of the first register for companies that have not submitted full data but have given ‘robust’ commitments to do so.

No companies have been added to this list new category so far.

The handling of the novel foods process, which is being carried out domestically by the UK regulator but aligns with EU law on CBD, has split opinion.

Robert Jappie, industry expert and partner at law firm Ince, said it was ‘frustrating’ and raised big enforcement questions but PureisCBD founder, Chanelle McCoy, praised the FSA and blamed firms for not submitting applications in a timely manner.
