Recently securing up to £26.7m of funding from a FTSE-250 listed investment fund, Glass Pharms has announced a team of “best-of-breed” partners to complete its cultivation facility.
KUBO has been selected to deliver a state-of-the-art 2.5 hectare greenhouse for the UK-based medical cannabis cultivation company Glass Pharms’ facility in the South of England.
In order to ensure sophisticated control of climatic conditions and low energy consumption, the greenhouse will harness KUBO’s patented Ultra-Clima® system.

Additionally, Glass Pharms intends to make the facility carbon negative, and it will be powered entirely by renewable energy generated from food waste fed into an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant.
Waste hot water from the AD plant will also be used for both heating and cooling, and the greenhouse will harvest and recycle rainwater – representing a new benchmark for sustainable enclosed agriculture in the UK.
Glass Pharms CEO, James Duckenfield, commented: “We will underpin a secure supply chain of affordable medical cannabis to UK patients without them having to compromise on freshness or quality, whilst at the same time making a real contribution towards the UK’s Net Zero targets.”
Alongside KUBO, Askam Civil Engineering, with specific sector expertise, will also be providing the required civils and headhouse fitout for the facility.
Glass Pharms announced it would be building the greenhouse in December 2021, when it stated that the facility will enable to company to grow medical cannabis to the correct regulatory standards for onward supply to UK pharmacies and clinics.
Speaking at the time, Duckenfield, commented: “We will underpin a secure supply chain of medical cannabis to UK patients without them having to compromise on freshness or quality, whilst at the same time making a real contribution towards the UK’s Net Zero targets.”
Earlier this year the company announced Richard Lewis, one of the UK’s most experienced glasshouse growers, as its managing director, and has stated it will shortly announce its plant-specific expert.
