Medical cannabis was legalised by ministerial decree in 2015, requiring magistral preparation by a pharmacist. Implementation sits with regional health systems, producing variation between regions, and the government has in practice restricted imports to Bedrocan with the long-term aim of domestic supply.
Paid prescriptions via private healthcare let any doctor prescribe for evidence-supported conditions; reimbursed prescriptions via public healthcare are limited by each region's rules and require a specialist therapeutic plan, with GPs able to renew.
A handful of flower strains, including the military-grown FM2, and a range of pharmacy extract products are available; flower is sold at a fixed price and pharmacies sell extracts at cost.
