Belgium has restricted medical access to approved pharmaceutical cannabis products. Personal possession of small amounts is tolerated in practice. A broader medical or adult-use framework has not progressed in parliament.
In Belgium, the medical use of pure CBD in magistral preparations is legal. All other forms of medical cannabis — including THC-containing products — are not permitted.
CBD existed in a legal grey area in Belgium until 2019, when its distinction from THC and its legal position as a non-narcotic substance was formally clarified.
General practitioners and specialists can prescribe CBD treatment at their discretion.

Available treatments: CBD-only magistral preparations — oils or capsules prepared by a magistral pharmacist from pure CBD in API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) form.
THC-containing medical cannabis products are not legally available in Belgium.

Only pure CBD magistral preparations are available in Belgium — oils and capsules prepared by licensed magistral pharmacists from CBD API.
No flower products, THC-containing extracts, or other standard medical cannabis formulations are available.
Pure CBD API is imported for use in magistral preparations. No domestic CBD or cannabis production industry of note exists in Belgium.
THC-containing medical cannabis products cannot be imported under the current framework.
