ON THE BALLOT
North Dakota could strengthen reform efforts in middle America
Adult-use cannabis legalization will have a chance at redemption in North Dakota on 8 November after a previous reform effort suffered a 20-point defeat in the state’s 2018 election, reports Cannabis Business Times.
North Dakota’s 2022 ballot measure aims to start a regulated, licensed adult-use industry, including a licensed industry for cultivation, processing, retail and testing laboratories.
If supported by voters, the 2022 ballot proposal will:
- Legalize the possession of up to 1 ounce of cannabis.
- 4 grams of concentrate and up to 500 milligrams of THC in an infused product.
- Personal cultivation of up to three cannabis plants at private residences.
The bill is a progressive development in a state that has long had one of the highest cannabis arrests rates in the nation, highlights the publication, despite having among the lowest reported cannabis use of any state.
CANNABIS TOURISTS
Tourists could be able to self-certify for medical cannabis while in Washington D.C.
The mayor of Washington, D.C. has signed a bill allowing non-residents to self-certify as medical marijuana patients while they’re visiting the nation’s capital without the need for any doctor’s recommendation, reports Marijuana Moment.
Supporters have said the move could boost tourism, as it will also apply to international visitors as well as national.
The bill would enable:
- Non-residents to obtain a 30-day registration from the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) to purchase cannabis from licensed dispensaries.
- Patients who are registered in medical cannabis programmes in other states to qualify for a full registration.
- An increase in the amount of cannabis that a patient can possess from four to eight ounces.
Dr Chanda Macias, founder of the D.C. medical cannabis dispensary the National Holistic Healing Center, praised the new policy, saying that it will lead to “increased patient access to plant-based medicine and will introduce new patients to the flourishing local medical marijuana landscape.”
