Packaged Canadian Cannabis Inventory

Below is the part of a weekly series of benchmarks provided by the team at Cannabis Benchmarks®.

—–

Canadian cannabis sales have trended upward steadily since commencing in October 2018, with Cannabis Benchmarks projecting roughly 14,000 kilograms of product sold in February 2020.

However, the COVID-19, or coronavirus, pandemic is likely to result in disruption to Canada’s still-developing adult-use market. Consumers and patients looking to stock up ahead of taking measures to self-isolate and socially distance themselves from others may drive March sales to elevated levels. April’s market conditions are difficult to project due to the possibility that the movement of Canadians will be restricted, which could depress sales and disrupt production, depending on what the federal and provincial governments decide.

Some retailers have already closed their physical locations voluntarily, or have been compelled to do so by authorities. For the time being, though, adequate supply should not be an issue due to the inventory buildup that took place last year.
